How to add a new page

New pages can only be added by linking to them: in other words you must edit an existing page and enter some text on that page which will function as a link to the new page. To add a tip, for instance, you would first go to the Tips page and press the Edit button. In order to Edit you must be logged in with a user name (which can be anything) and the site password.

Once in Edit mode you can create linked text in two ways: a) type a word with SeveralCapitalLetters (not very sensible) or b) put square brackets around normal text (better). Save the edited page and your new entry will appear with a dotted underline indicating that it is a link which doesn't yet have an associated page. Click on that link and you will be offered an opportunity to create that page. So you might type [Speed up changes to many lines with recursive macros] if you wanted to create a page for that tip.

Incidentally, to type text that has SeveralCapitalLetters but isn't a link (e.g. McTavish), precede it with a tilde (~) character.

To create a link on a page to something other than another page of the same Wiki, use square brackets around the URL. You can add a vertical bar to separate the text of the link from the URL: e.g.:

  • [http://www.google.com] - links to Google and displays http://www.google.com

  • [http://www.google.com|Google] - links to Google and displays Google
